The Royal Conservatory of Music is one of the largest and most respected music education institutions in the world, providing the definitive standard of excellence in curriculum design, assessment, performance training, teacher certification, and arts-based social programs.
The Pixel Shop and RCM have a long working relationship that includes a complete website redesign. The new challenge brought to the table for this project was to migrate the entire website, including all previous design and content, from Drupal to Kentico. We were presented with an aggressive timeline and rigid new security guidelines. The Pixel Shop took on the challenge and delivered another successful project, strengthening its partnership with RCM, and paving the way for future collaborations.

Kentico Site of the Year 2019 Finalist
Designing and building a flexible and scalable system
More than 13 custom widgets were introduced to create a flexible and powerful tool for RCM and it's user base. Users are able to access the event calendar, purchase tickets online, register for courses, and even take digital learning classes and online self-assessment quizzes.
One of the goals of this project was to create and sophisticated role-based content management system that would accommodate the scale of RCM’s team. Using role based access and advanced workflows, we allowed for a granular content editing governance model, where content editing and publishing was restricted within business units. Using Kentico allowed The Pixel Shop to rebuild the existing website style, using a more stable, secure and intuitive CMS platform.
One of the major challenges this project presented was the scripted migration of large amounts of content. Along with the added challenge of a tight deadline, the migration also included the recreation of pages and the transfer of content from fixed Drupal templates to flexible Kentico widgets. The Pixel Shop rose to the challenge and provided a robust and flexible new website.
The initial decision to migrate from Drupal to Kentico was a security breach in the RCM network. The goal of the project was to maintain the websites content, structure and integrations, while providing enhanced security features that would prevent any future breaches.
Adapting a historic brand for a digital future
The goal of the graphic design process was to adapt and expand the well established RCM brand for digital platforms. Storytelling and the human connection were a central theme for this project. A clean and modern approach was used to allow photography to engage and excite the visitor.
A collaborative success
The Pixel Shop’s project management team led this project through a lot of challenges: tight timelines, a modest budget and content modelling, just to name a few. Working with the RCM marketing and IT teams, we delivered the project on time and on budget. The Pixel Shop provided a full content migration, security updates and extensive training. The project was made successful through close collaboration between our team and RCM’s teams.
