Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes) is a leading Canadian law Firm with an International presence. Blakes came to the Pixel Shop to rebuild their entire online presence. Along with a modern and dynamic front facing website, the team worked to deliver a new Kentico solution that would allow for secure and intuitive content management.

Strategy for success

Discovery

The Pixel Shop led an extensive discovery phase which included, but was not limited to, brand sessions and interviews with multiple stakeholders and a thorough investigation of content, site architecture, user stories and personas. Through this process we were able to create a comprehensive plan for the rebuild and rebrand of Blakes.com that would reflect the needs of Blakes and its various stakeholders.

User Experience

By leveraging findings from the discovery phase The Pixel Shop decided on a direction for merging the two previous sites and creating new information architecture as well as a complete content overhaul and site map restructuring. The new structure led to the development of comprehensive wireframes that formed the foundation of an intuitive and straightforward experience for users.

A flexible design system for maximum customization

The new site was built using a widgets-based approach. A wide library of designed components are easily accessible to content creators, who can then build page layouts with easy drag and drop functionality. All the widgets were designed to be flexible, but also fit within a well-defined design system. Content creators can choose the best widgets for different types of content, without worrying about breaking the design.

The Pixel Shop provided Blakes with a robust new search functionality by using Kentico’s integration with azure search. Content is easily searchable, using faceted filters and text based queries. This functionality provides easy access to Blakes wide employee directory as showcasing Blakes’s industry leading insights.

A main part of this project was the merging of two sites using different CMS platforms, into one single experience using Kentico CMS. This process involved migrating content and creating integrations with an existing employee directory and CRM. Custom scripts were created to meet Blakes specific needs. The results are user friendly, secure and a completely integrated system.

The Pixel Shop’s partnership with Blakes goes beyond design and development, and continues after launch. Some of the configuration done for this project includes: configuring internal routes to allow content sync between environments in a safe way; creating applications inside the servers; configuring automatic deployments for non-production environments; and configuring scheduled deployments to the production environment to reduce site outage. We provide ongoing technical support and ensure that all development done by The Pixel Shop integrated seamlessly with third-party vendors.
